Earlier this month our department participated in the Women in the Money conference . This event, sponsored by the Utah Financial Empowerment Coalition, aims to empower Utah women to be financially secure by providing access targeted financial information, valuable resources, and new mentors and friends. The Division of Securities hosted an in person and virtual booth at the event where they were able to interact with participants and talk to them one on one. Commerce Director Margaret Busse, Division of Securities Director Jason Sterzer, and Division of Consumer Protection Director Daniel O’Bannon spoke during an afternoon breakout session. Their remarks focused on being aware of the potential for scams and provided some practical tips on what to look out for. Approximately 117 people attended the session (which was also broadcast virtually). This opportunity for our division leaders to get out and present directly to the public is part of our proactive communication approach for empowering Utah consumers to make wise decisions about how they interact in commercial activities.
